Individual competition at the 50th European Championships in Istanbul ended for Azerbaijani karate athletes with three medals. Our athletes took part in three final fights out of five and Rafael Agayev (75 kg) and Niyazi Aliyev (-67 kg) became the winners of the competition, Ayhan Mamaev (-84 kg) won silver. Rafael Aghayev won his 12th and Niyazi Aliyev 2nd title of European Champion.
In kata competitions Tural Baldjanly failed to resist the famous French sportsman, a multiple winner of the World and European Championships Dack Vu Duc Minh, however, took place in the top five. While Azerbaijani team ranked third among 18 countries that have managed to win medals. In total, the European Championship was attended by 433 athletes from 47 countries.
The winners of the team competition will be announced on March 22. Our men's team consisting of Tural Agalarzade, Panah Abdullayev, Asiman Gurbanli, Ayhan Mamaev, Orhan Heydarli, Rafael Agayev and Shahin Atamov will compete with the Germans.
